Sphere (Quartet devoted to Monk’s music)

It was organized in the early 1980s by the tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse, the pianist Kenny Barron, the double bass player Buster Williams, and the drummer Ben Riley. Its activities were intended to commemorate the work of Thelonious (Sphere) Monk, and its first album, Four in One (1982, Elektra Musician 60166), was devoted entirely to Monk's music. Thereafter the members added their own compositions to the group's repertory.
